Supra is pushing their skaters hard: first with Terry Kennedy and his Society, now with Antwoine Dixon and his namesake model, The Dixon. This new sneaker from Supra is civilized compared to their wild (have you seen how tall the Skytop 2 is?) designs, coming in a calm low-rise shape. Navy seems to be one of those colors that work well with a gumsole and Supra have done a very good, simplistic job.

New Lakai at The Market

January 26th, 2010

New Lakai have hit Marketplace shelves, the Telford, Commerce and MJ-5 are all available while supplies last. The Telford comes in a Purple/Grey/White colorway, and the Commerce features a Gray(suede)/Black(suede)/White colorway.

Unlike the previous two models, the MJ-5 gets it’s own video instead of a cool slideshow. It’s an interesting watch and the lightning bolt is fitting. The MJ-5 is electrifying (haha) and Marc Johnson is shocked (haha) by the Black/white colorway; a nice clean colorway for S/S.

Tape Tuesday

January 26th, 2010

image 2

Download: noir. is black

Erick “Arc” Elliot presents “Noir.” In the midst of a game full of ‘rappers’ who are more concerned with singing their verses or convincing us all that they are an alien from another planet, it’s refreshing to sit down and hear a tape full of nothing short of straight forward, heart felt, authentic rap. No gimmicks, no nonsense-just the voice of a hungry, 21 year old, MC from Flatbush Brooklyn relating his day to day to the listener over some beautiful original production from The Remedy and Flash Frequency Music. For fans of rap and fans of old-fashioned-home-baked in a bedroom music in general, Arc’s Noir will not disappoint.

That’s the description that came with the tape but after listening to NOIR 10+ times, I can assure you that the description is spot on, it aint no gimmick. You may have never heard of Erick but you’ll be glad you did. Personal favorites are Orbital (I can put it on repeat and never get sick of it), Empty Space, All Over The Place, Fanfare and Traduction but that’s just me(!), I love the tape as a whole. Erick is getting nods from Illroots and even clothing company The Award Tour. Long story short:  welcome Erick Arc Elliott, and noir. is black into your that home of yours you call iTunes (or whatever music player you may use haha).

At the 1991 NBA All Star weekend, rookie Dee Brown won the Slam Dunk Contest with a “No-Look” Dunk while wearing these shoes. The shoes which he pumped up prior to his ambitious “cover the eyes with forearm” move became an instant classic on that All-Star Saturday. Here’s your chance to own a historic piece of sneaker history. The sole of the shoes feature accents of Orange, White, and Black. The upper is made out of leather and patent leather. It also features mesh under laces and on the sides of the shoe. The toe-box features breathable structure. Inner lining comes in Black.

Maestro Knows Mondays

January 25th, 2010

In this episode follow Maestro and MJ to downtown LA while they check out the Last Laugh store and find Kogi Korean BBQ with Estevan Oriol.

Maestro and MJ link up with photographer Estevan Oriol at his shop, which is owned in partnership with Mr. Cartoon. Estevan takes Maestro and MJ through the store, showing off collaborations with Nike, Cartoon’s work, photography, and his boxes upon boxes of clothing. After a impromptu tour, Estevan explains the idea behind the Koji Barbeque Truck, and once again I cannot stress this statement: LA has G.O.O.D. food!

I don’t mean to say it in a boastful way (maybe it’s the only way though..), but Maestro is — for lack of a better term — well-connected and it’s amazing to see how wide his circle of friends is; his friendships are so far ranging, you won’t see him hanging out with just Rappers or just Skaters and you can’t do anything but admire that. It is something that isn’t seen every day and to be able to make friends with so many different people, let alone so many talented people, is astounding.
